In order to further enhance its' customer service capabilities Affiliated Energy has recently added their own in house coating process from Birchwood Technologies.  Affiliated Energy can now perform TRU TEMP black oxide as well as Mi-Phos Z-10 zinc phosphate protection after the finial machining process has been completed.

        The TRU TEMP black oxide solution operates at only 200-deg F, and uses a mild alkaline chemistry that does not embrittle steel components.  This solution forms a non-dimensional, non-hazardous attractive finish with long-term corrosion resistance.  The TRU TEMP finish also prevents galling on thread surfaces and other critical part features.  The satin black coating is approximately 0.5 microns (20 millionths) in thickness with no effect on material hardness or tensile strength.  The finish withstands up to 100-200 hours of neutral salt spray (ASTM B 117) or several hours of humidity (ASTMD 1748).

         Other specifications include:

                        Complies with MIL Spec: MIL-DTL-13924C Grade 1 and AMS 2485 (Aerospace Material Specification).

                        
        The Hubbard-Hall Mi-Phos Z-10 zinc phosphate finish is also a low temperature process that does not change the dimensional accuracy of the finished product.  The zinc phosphate finish is used on parts that do not require a black finish, but do require good long-term corrosion resistance, along with anti-galling properties or break-in lubricity. 

Other specifications include:

                        Complies with Federal Specification TT-C-490, Type 1,2,3

                        Class 1: Finish to be sealed with rust inhibitor specified by customer

                        Class 2: Finish to be sealed with rust inhibitor that complies with MIL-PRF-16173

                                     such as DRI TOUCH PLUS IRP3 from Birchwood Technologies.

                        Class 3: Finish to be left unsealed

            
           To further enhance storage protection on both the black oxide and zinc phosphate, a coating of Birchwoods DRI TOUCH PLUS IRP3 can be added.  DRI TOUCH PLUS is a heavy duty protective coating which leaves a soft waxy film with good moisture resistance.

            With a working envelope of approximately 18”W  X 48”L X 33” Deep a wide variety of shapes and sizes can be processed in a relatively short period of time.  A single batch can be finished in less than 30-minutes allowing for expedited parts to be processed should the need arise.
